Addressing barriers through roadmapping
EPIXC initiated a formal technology roadmapping process, engaging stakeholders in all aspects and stages of the roadmap development, including manufacturers, unions, technology and service providers, researchers, educators, government agencies, national laboratories, communities and industry organizations. Broad participation will encourage deeper insights into barriers to the implementation of electrified technologies and the benefits of such technologies. The roadmapping process will help identify technology gaps to address specific barriers, and technology options to close the gaps and to apply electrified heating technologies across multiple industry sectors.
Roadmapping activities will also identify programmatic options to address workforce development gaps and potential economic and environmental benefits of electrification to both manufacturers and the local communities in which they operate. The integration of technology, workforce development and community resilience programming will accelerate the adoption of electrification technologies. The output of the roadmapping process will inform EPIXC’s Strategic Investment Plan, and will be updated annually to account for recent progress, new needs and assess risk.
Education and workforce development roadmap
The EPIXC education and workforce development roadmap will develop an industry-driven education and workforce development strategic plan for recruiting, hiring and retaining a skilled workforce. Initially our focus will be on the largest group of workers in EPIXC’s industries: the incumbent and transitioning workers who may need upskilling or reskilling. Next, EPIXC will implement strategies to create a stable and sustainable pipeline of talent focused on attracting new workers through:
Apprenticeships
Experiential education, internships
Industry-recognized certification programs
2-year, 4-year and advanced degree programs
